Bespoke Polyethylene Fabrication at Dipec
Leveraging decades of technical expertise and a specialised workshop, Dipec provides precision-engineered Polyethylene solutions tailored to your unique operational requirements.
Precision CNC Machining
Using advanced routing and milling, we produce high-tolerance components from HDPE and UHMW, ensuring clean finishes on parts ranging from complex mechanical gears to heavy-duty wear strips.
Specialist Plastic Welding
Unlike other materials, Polyethylene is ideally suited for hot gas and extrusion welding. We create high-strength, leak-proof joins for chemical tanks, bunds, and structural assemblies that mechanical fixings can’t match.
Industrial Cutting & Sizing
Our heavy-duty saw technology and CNC equipment allow us to process thick-gauge Polyethylene sheets into precise panels and billets, maintaining dimensional accuracy for large-scale industrial projects.
Component Assembly & Fabrication
From multi-part industrial housings to integrated conveyor components, we manage the full assembly process, ensuring every HDPE or UHMW part fits perfectly within your existing systems.
Surface & Edge Machining
While PE is typically functional rather than aesthetic, we machine and deburr all edges to ensure safety and performance, providing smooth, snag-free surfaces for material handling applications.
Prototyping & High-Volume Production
We support your project from initial material selection and prototyping through to high-volume manufacturing, maintaining rigorous quality control across every Polyethylene component we produce.
Common Applications of Polyethylene
Polyethylene’s ruggedness and chemical stability make it the industry standard for demanding environments. HDPE and UHMW are the primary choices for high-impact, high-wear, and corrosive settings, including:
- Industrial Wear Strips & Guides: Utilising the low-friction properties of UHMW for conveyor systems.
- Chemical Tanks & Bunds: Corrosion-resistant storage solutions for harsh processing environments.
- Impact Liners & Chutes: Heavy-duty protection for material handling and mining equipment.
- Food Processing Components: FDA-compliant cutting boards, rollers, and star wheels.
- Marine & Outdoor Structures: UV-stable and water-resistant panels that won’t rot or delaminate.
- Pipe Fittings & Manifolds: Durable, welded assemblies for fluid and gas management.
- Dock Bumpers & Fendering: High-impact protection for transport and maritime hubs.
Polyethylene Grades & Thicknesses Available
- HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene): Rigid, strong, and highly resistant to chemicals.
- UHMW-PE (Ultra-High Molecular Weight): Exceptional wear resistance and extremely low friction.
- LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene): A more flexible grade used for specialist linings and gaskets.
- UV-Stabilised Grades: Enhanced for long-term outdoor durability and weather resistance.
- Regenerated/Recycled Grades: Cost-effective solutions for non-critical wear applications.
- Bespoke Colours: Available for identification strips or brand-specific requirements.
Thicknesses for Polyethylene are far more extensive than most plastics, typically ranging from 2mm up to 100mm+, allowing for the fabrication of substantial, heavy-duty industrial components.

POLYETHYLENE FAQs
While both are polyethylenes, HDPE (High-Density) is more rigid and cost-effective for structural parts like tanks, whereas UHMW (Ultra-High Molecular Weight) has a higher molecular density, offering superior abrasion resistance and lower friction for moving parts.
Yes, but it requires UV-stabilised grades. Standard Polyethylene can degrade under prolonged sun exposure, so we recommend black or UV-treated HDPE for outdoor infrastructure to prevent brittleness and “chalking.”
Polyethylene is more “forgiving.” While Polycarbonate is very strong, it can crack under specific chemical stress or extreme notch sensitivity. HDPE and UHMW tend to dent or deform rather than shatter, making them safer for heavy industrial guards.
Polyethylene is much more difficult to vacuum form due to its high thermal expansion and “shrink” rate. Instead, we typically use CNC machining or line bending to achieve precise shapes.
PE cannot be effectively glued or solvent-bonded because of its low surface energy. For structural integrity, we use professional plastic welding (hot gas or extrusion welding) to create a homogenous, leak-proof bond.
Polyethylene has a relatively low melting point compared to high-performance plastics like PEEK. It typically performs best in environments under 80°C; for higher heat, an alternative material may be required.
Absolutely. Many of our HDPE grades are FDA and EU food-contact compliant, making them ideal for cutting boards, food factory wall cladding, and bottling line components.
UHMW is self-lubricating and outlasts carbon steel in many abrasive applications. It reduces noise, requires no grease, and won’t damage the metal components it interacts with.
No. PE has near-zero moisture absorption. This makes it dimensionally stable in marine environments or submersed industrial applications where nylon might swell and seize.
Choose LDPE (Low-Density) if you need a flexible, “squeezable” material or a thin, pliable gasket. Choose HDPE if you require structural rigidity, high tensile strength, and impact resistance.
PE offers some of the best chemical resistance in the plastics family. it is largely unaffected by strong acids, alkalis, and many organic solvents, which is why it’s the standard for chemical bunding.
Regenerated UHMW is made from recycled material. It is more economical and works perfectly for non-critical wear plates or conveyor guides where the highest virgin purity isn’t required.
While possible, laser cutting PE often leaves a melted, “beaded” edge. We prefer CNC routing, as it provides a much cleaner, burr-free edge finish and better dimensional accuracy.
We supply fabricated PE parts to the water treatment, chemical processing, marine, material handling, and food production industries due to its durability and hygiene properties.
Yes, Polyethylene is highly recyclable (Code 2 for HDPE and Code 4 for LDPE). We can also source sheets with high recycled content for eco-conscious engineering projects.
PE remains exceptionally tough in the cold. Unlike many other plastics that become brittle, UHMW in particular retains its impact resistance at temperatures as low as -200°C.
Yes, though its high thermal expansion coefficient must be accounted for during the design phase. Our CNC routing equipment is calibrated to ensure accuracy for industrial fitments.
Naturally, PE is an excellent electrical insulator. However, for explosive environments (ATEX zones), we can supply “Antistatic” or “Conductive” grades to prevent spark discharge.
Unlike some other plastic materials – many of which are usually thin-gauge or medium-gauge – we can machine Polyethylene blocks up to 100mm thick or more, allowing for the creation of heavy-duty bushings, rollers, and supports.
Specialist plastic fabrication requires different tooling and cooling techniques than metal. At Dipec, we understand the specific “memory” and thermal properties of PE, ensuring your parts don’t warp or stress during production.
